Bat use of abandoned mines throughout Nevada

چکیده
Abandoned mines offer important roosting habitat for several species of bats throughout the western United States. Currently, abandoned mine reclamation programs are tasked with closing to ameliorate safety, health, and environmental hazards found in around these sites. Without appropriate pre-closure evaluations determine use workings prior closure, that depend on may be negatively impacted. To mitigate impacts bats, surveyors typically conduct biological recommend wildlife compatible closures (e.g., bat gates) ecologically Due hazardous conditions many mines, internal surveys cannot always conducted, external not reliable determining underground or inferring past, future, potential by when they absent during surveys. The purpose our study was examine relationships between characteristics landscape, including portal area shape, number portals, depth, elevation, proximity water land type. We surface features type, distance water, elevation were associated use, as depth shape. best conserve sensitive it is essential detailed possible enhance understanding species' associations distribution landscape. Further information will facilitate development sound closure recommendations openings.

Abandoned Uranium Mines Project Atlas Project Overview
The Navajo Nation is located on the Colorado Plateau and encompasses over 25,000 square miles across Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The distinctive physiography of this region has resulted in a major mining area for uranium. The Navajo Nation includes intensely dissected rocky regions and has elevations that range from about 3,000 feet to slightly over 10,000 feet. The region is known for a wid...
متن کاملA system for volumetric robotic mapping of abandoned mines
This paper describes two robotic systems developed for acquiring accurate volumetric maps of underground mines. One system is based on a cart instrumented by laser range finders, pushed through a mine by people. Another is a remotely controlled mobile robot equipped with laser range finders. To build consistent maps of large mines with many cycles, we describe an algorithm for estimating global...
متن کاملSustainable Post-Mining Land Use: Are Closed Metal Mines Abandoned or Re-Used Space?
Sustainable land use in post-mining areas has received more attention only recently. This study examined landscape characteristics and post-mining land use in 51 metal mining sites in Finland. Studied mines were closed during the period of 1924–2016, and over half of them had been active more than 10 years. Mines were typically located in sparsely populated forest landscapes. Cultural and recre...
متن کاملGeoenvironmental Characterisation of Heap Leach Materials at Abandoned Mines: Croydon Au-Mines, QLD, Australia
Heap leaching is a well-established metallurgical technology which allows metal recovery (e.g., Au, Cu, U) from low-grade ores. However, spent heap leach materials remaining at abandoned or historic mine sites may represent a potential source of contamination. At the Croydon Au-mines, heap leaching operations (1984–1985) were performed on mineralized rhyolites hosting sulphides including pyrite...
